Plantation of 1 Million trees for 5 years by partnering with 5000 farmers from drought prone area is the organization’s flagship project started in 2018.
Million tree plantation project is a very promising project to combat desertification in the drought prone area of eastern Maharashtra. It’s designed in a way that the environment should benefit from the plantation. The project involves local farmer families to plant trees around houses, schools, temples, common places. The idea is to create clusters of microclimatic patches by establishing bio-diversity.
The organization involves 1000 individual farmer families to plant 200 saplings around the house they are living. The families contributed their 1 acres of land and the manpower and water and many other resources to nurture the plantation. Whereas the organization has been supporting them with the kit of organic manure and water absorber while plantation on barren land around the house. The watering pipe and some emergency water support especially during drought period has been carried out so as to assure the successful plantation.
The Tree plantation project emphasis on plantation of a variety of saplings best suited for the agro-climatic conditions. Different types of plants selected are of fruits, flowers, fodder, forest, medicinal. The variety of plants essential to restore biodiversity in the area by seasonal flowers, fruits and fodder as well as shadow giving trees enrich the soil too. The implementation team has a network of people to deal with huge tasks for 5 years.
The participants are expressing the change in the temperature around the house is less than the outer for around 4 degrees. Many insects, butterflies, moths observed. The flowers and seasonal fruits along with fodder for cattle had been really support for the family. The pleasant atmosphere the family is experiencing altogether.
